Travelogue – Kovalam

Day1 and Day2 in Kanyakumari

Day3 ( Kanyakumari to Kovalam)

Day to leave for Kovalam my next destination in kerala. On the way i was going to see some places which i missed while on my way to Kanyakumari (all cos my driver and my travel agent Livya travels). First was Schedrum temple. A very big temple which is spread in 5 acres (Gents have to remove shirt in the temple, even cannot carry camera). In that temple there are many small temples of other god and goddess. A huge idol of Hanuman is the prime attraction.

Then went to Udaygiri fort. It is also a nice place for trekking. Now the fort is also a Biodiversity park & deers, ducks , birds & variety of trees (most of the trees have their names written in them) are found inside the fort. (Entry fee 2 rs , camera fees 5 rs)

From there asking the local people the route of the waterfall finally i reached there. The place was very crowded with local people as it was Saturday. I was excited to enter the water till i saw some people taking bath and some ladies washing cloths. Then had lunch in a small lunch home in a typical South Indian Style (on banana leaf). Then asked my driver to take me to “Mathur hanging bridge” but my driver was in no mood and straight forward denied. But then forced him (had a small argument) and he finally took me there. An awesome 1km long bridge on a height of an about 1000 ft. An amazing thing is that a small nalla flow along with the bridge. The view from the bridge is also great. Both ends have steps to take people down where a small garden type thing is made. It was a bit scary also when i walked till the middle of the bridge. I just imagine, how the feeling will be when anyone will stand in the middle of the bridge in monsoon.

Then went to see Padmanabhapuram Palace also called as Wooden palace. As the name suggest its a palace totally made using woods, even the flooring, steps. It took more than an hr to see the entire palace. guides are also there who explain about the history of palace.

Then from there directly headed for Kovalam, Country Spy beach resort. By the time we reach it was dark so we missed the sunset. The hotel looked very nice in the lights. We had our dinner and decided to take a walk around the hotel. Swimming pool, Small garden, yoga area, a small pond with lotus and some fish made the hotel are very pleasant. Beach was just behind the hotel, so decided to go there next day early morning. So we can enjoy on the beach as we have to leave for Ashtamudi quite early as it was some 100+ km from kovalam.
